PAKKRET Travel Guide Wat Pho Thong Bon is an ancient temple believed to predate the Ayutthaya period. Located along the Chao Phraya River, the area in front of the temple is regarded as a sacred zone (aphai than), featuring a gilded stucco Buddha image in the Blessing Posture (Prathan Phon) that is clearly visible to travelers navigating the river. Inside the temple’s ordination hall (ubosot) is a stucco principal Buddha image in the Mara Vichaya (Subduing Mara) posture, approximately 70 years old.
