101 W at Sao Thong Thong was built by Mon people during Thonburi period. It was formerly called “Wat Suan Mak” or “Pia Arlat” by Mon people. After the temple had been built, all the Mak (Areca palm) trees were cut down. During the reign of Rama IV, Chao Chom Ampha, who was the royal concubine of King Rama II, along with Krommeuan Phuban KromkhunWorachakkri visited and renovated the damaged temple. After the renovation, they renamed it Wat Sao Thong Thong since there were no Mak trees left. The temple was built in Ayutthaya architecture. There is a twelve-recessed pagoda behind the main hall on a rectangle base. It is the tallest pagoda in Pakkret. There are twelve other pagoda called “Phratutangkajedi” surrounding the main pagoda. Additionally, there are also two unique pagodas, including the bell-shaped one and starfruit-shaped one.
