9 PAKKRET The city of Happiness PAKKRET The city of Happiness Participation of the community and social services Providing social welfare, development of the quality of life of children, women and the elderly, and the marginalized are all tasks that were transferred to Pakkret Municipality, as an organization that implements national policy for the service of the people. The Division of Social Welfare is an agency that is responsible for such tasks, providing services on social welfare to the elderly, the disabled, and AIDS patients in areas according to the mandate and government policy. The work related to welfare must go through the joint deliberations of the Municipality and the community before consideration of details. The representatives of the community are selected by the Municipality for each area to help convey issues of concern to the Municipality. Currently, in Pakkret there are a total of 66 communities where interested residents work with the Municipality through becoming community representatives. This is one way in which the community can take part in the development work in an informal way, but nevertheless significantly help strengthen relationships in the community.
