Saba-Mon : The Joy for Young Men and Women In the past, on Songkran’s day the game Saba- Mon would be held in villages from evening until night. Concurrently, young men and women were given a chance to get to know each other under the oversight of elders. The playground is called Bon, a flat and smooth soil platform, allowing 8-12 people to sit. The place is decorated with colorful pieces paper and cloths to enliven a sense of emotional vitality. Music is played; food is prepared for all guests. During the game, women will team up to play against the men’s counterpart. The eldest of each team will be selected as team leaders whom other members are supposes to respect. The two teams take turns in playing the game. When one cannot hit a ball (saba) to the target and surrender, the ball will switch to the opposing team. In order to regain the control, the losing members do whatever the winning side asks them. For example, they might be requested to dance or act in a funny way. During the game, women will team up to play against the men’s counterpart.
