Monks are doing an evening pray as usual in Wat Bang Pood Nok Wat Srirattanaram Ubosot with glowing yellow color 6. Wat Bang Pood Nok The monastery was located near Khlong Bang Pood (canal) and dated back in 1597 during the reign of King Ekathosarot in Ayutthaya era. The temple was named after the community where it was situated and after its twin temple which was called “Wat Bang Pood Nei.” Inside consists of the old Ubosot with an unfamiliar design characterized by the mid-Ayutthaya architecture with a stucco gable featuring figures of deities whose hands are held in a praying position. There are only one door at the front and two doors at the back without any window. Its base is bent as a curve of a Chinese sailing ship. The hall enshrines a Buddha image in a meditation posture. There are four Chedis with twelve indented corners and one Chedi with a round shape. Within the temple compound, there are dwelling places of monks which are normally constructed with half wood and half cement, a prayer hall and a hall for sermons containing precious Buddha images, shrines, and sacred objects. 7. Wat Srirattanaram Located at the bank of the Chao Phraya River, Bang Pood district, the temple was built in the late Ayutthaya period and originally called “Wat Bang Pang” The Chao Phraya River often eroded the bank and the soil near the river bank. Thai people would call it “Taling Pang” (erosion of a river bank). The temple was named after the natural phenomenon and slightly changed into “Bang Pang.” The temple was also given another name of “Wang Masha” (a fish palace) because there are schools of fish and beautiful scenery with abundance of trees and shade. Within a large Ubosot, there are impressive murals that present the history of Buddha in Mon beliefs. It also contains three small Chedis with twelve indented corners. These three Chedis represent an image of Buddha, his teaching, and Buddhist priests. The Chedis are placed above a Chinese junk base with 7 meters in length. 61
